Yamaha has recently introduced the new Silent Guitar instruments, SLG110N nylon string, and the SLG110S steel string guitar. These new models are based on the original Silent Guitars, but with improved sound quality and playability. The new guitars have a new and improved DSP.

Free Guitar Restring At Andy's Music

Andy's Music, Mobile, Alabama, hosted a free guitar and bass restringing session on Saturday, July 11. With the donation of a canned good to benefit the Penelope House, customers received a free restring and setup of their guitar. Both acoustic and electric guitars, as well as basses were restrung during this event.

The event was very successful, with more than 36 guitars restrung and two large boxes filled with food. Penelope House is a non-profit organization established in 1979 by the Daughters of Penelope to help victims of domestic violence regain social and economic independence. The Family Violence Center is the only shelter for battered women and children in Mobile, Alabama, although services currently span across Mobile and Washington counties in Alabama.

This free guitar restring was sponsored by MusiCorp and Dean Markley strings. We are grateful for their donations and participation, especially to Mike Summers who setup and participated in this event.

Vinny Valentino Guitar Clinic

Jazz guitarist and Yamaha guitar clinician Vinny Valentino presented a well attended seminar on Wednesday evening December 10, at Andy's Music. Both professional and amatuer guitarist were in attendance, as well as young students with their teachers and parents.

Vinny performed many jazz favorites, and answered questions during his performance. He performed on various Yamaha guitars during the presentation, starting with the FGX720SC, which is a solid top dreadnought acoustic electric guitar with the System 55 preamp. He also played the APX700, CPX900, and the LLX6 from the handcrafted series.

All in attendance where impressed with Vinny's playing, as well as his ability to communicate with his audience. If you're ever presented with the chance to hear Vinny Valentino play, don't miss it. You'll be well rewarded - we were!

GUITAR WORKSHOP FEATURING VINNY VALENTINO

Recording artist and Yamaha guitar clinician Vinny Valentino will present a free guitar workshop at Andy's Music, 1412 Hillcrest Road at 7:00 p.m., December 10. Vinny is a native Virginian and has been playing guitar since age six. He is the newest member of the Jazz and Fusion super group Vital Information.

Vinny earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies at Howard University. He began his musical studies at Northern Virginia Community College and continued them at George Mason University before concentrating on jazz at Howard. In 1988, he released his first solo recording entitled Vinny Valentino, and now has five recordings to his credit.

His international debut recording, The Distance Between Two Lines, shot straight up the charts to #2 and stayed on the national charts for more than 14 weeks - an unprecedented achievement for a first international release. Paul Anthony of Jazz Unlimited called it “one of the top five albums of 1993.”

Based in New York City, Vinny tours extensively, playing concerts, festivals, and club engagements around the world. Currently in addition to performing with his own bands, Vinny is performing with Bill Evans as well as Steve Smith and Vital Information.

Yamaha Corporation of America won three 2006 Players' Choice Awards, which are voted on by the readers of Acoustic Guitar magazine. Many voters omitted specific models on their ballots, so the editors bestowed awards on manufacturers.

"These awards reflect players' satisfaction with various types of guitars and accessories they bought with hard-earned cash" that have "passed the test of living-room jams, festival stages and recording studios," wrote the editors.

Yamaha Guitars won a Gold Award in the Classical Guitar category and a Silver Award for Beginner Guitar. Yamaha's nylon string guitars range from the GigMaker Classic package, which includes a C40 guitar, to the top-of-the-line acoustic-electric CGX31C. Yamaha's FG guitars have helped nurture emerging guitarists since their introduction in the 1960's and are among the most popular guitar lines ever sold in the United States.

In 1951 Leo Fender introduced a prototype solid-body guitar that would eventually be called the Fender Telecaster guitar.
